Located on a beautiful slope of Mount Subasio, Assisi is a picturesque town surrounded by medieval walls, and one of the major religious centers of Italy for the memory of San Francesco and Santa Chiara, still very much alive thanks to two churches dedicated to them. The incredible beauty of the Basilica of San Francesco, composed of two superimposed buildings resting on huge arches. The Lower Church houses the tomb of St. Francis, the upper one housed the 28 frescoes depicting the life of San. Francesco, by Giotto and its collaborators between 1926 and 1304. In the nearby district of Santa Maria degli Angeli, you can visit the Church built over the chapel of the Portiuncula, which is found in the Chapel of the Transito: here St. Francis died there October 3, 1226. Some films were shooted in these spirituality areas: “Fratello sole e sorella luna”, by Zeffirelli, and “Francesco” by Cavani”.
