Antigorio Valley : Holy Places, Thermal waters, gorges and Giant Mills

filled by Giulia

Weekend destination: Uriezzo Gorges. Along the street you will find many treasures to be discovered because Antigorio valley , that host and anticipates Devero and Formazza valleys, reserves many surprises.
Crodo for example, in addition to the famous Crodino, is known for its water suitable for the treatment of intestinal and stomach diseases.
At Bagni di Crodo, in Parco delle Terme, from June to mid September, you can enjoy free cold mineral waters that flow from the three sources of Golden Valley, Cistella and Lisel. The park, near the Toce river , is a beautiful place to relax in the countryside, equipped with games for kids, tables and benches and a pavilion with water fountains.
For some years has been expanded with the opening of the Spa Premia, with swimming pools and spa, that exploits the beneficial properties of a hot spring that flows at 42 °. Going by car through the valley is impossible not to be charmed by the Parish of St. Gaudenzio in Baceno, even more impressive when illuminated in the dark of the night.
It’s one of the most famous shrines in the area, and stands on a rock overlooking the ravine Silogno.
On the front is represented St. Christopher, the patron of merchants traveling to the Alpine passes. It‘s called the church of the Alps, is a national monument of Romanesque art, with treasures from various periods.
The broad facade, divided into 3 parts, is substantially late Romanesque and presents the diagram of a simple house (“capanna” in italian language ) and it was made of gneiss, the local stone.
Worthy of note is the sanctuary of Crego (in the photo), circular church dedicated to Mary Immaculate, for a quick visit you can ask for the keys to the Mount Zeus refuge. At his feet there is the Uriezzo horrid.
At Premia and Baceno, in fact, in the middle valley Antigorio, the course of the Toce is wedged into the rock: the millennial erosion has shaped beautiful mufflers. The area has some horrid too.
The most characteristic is the Uriezzo ravine, 652 meters, which is accessible from Premia or Baceno or Plain Verampio. The south ravine is the most famous and known as the tomb of Uriezzo and is 150 meters long, the cavities are reaching a height of 12 meters.
The peculiarity of the gorges of Uriezzo is that the river has shaped them and now travels no more through these narrow incisions, so you can easily walk in them. It is formed by the amazing sinuosities of four great pots of fluvioglacial origin. You can go easily on foot, aided by metal stairs that connect the different levels of steps. At the exit of the horror is a path that leads back to the starting point. Continuing to Verampio instead, you can admire the giant mills that features along the present course of the Toce river, created by millennia of erosion by the river. From Premia we recommend proceeding to Passo village, 787 meters. From here you can reach the location of the upper and lower Salecchio, wonderful Walser villages between 1300 and 1500 meters. Once an independent town, now it 's only popular in the summer and keep the memories of the ancient civilizations of the Walser people in the twenty-third century emigrated from Valais.
