In Ferret Valley

filled by Giulia

Just beyond Courmayeur the Dora is divided, giving the name of two straight and converging valleys: the North West the Val Veny and the North East Val Ferret. The Val Ferret begins just beyond the village of Entrèves (m 1306) and cuts at the foot of Rochefort Ridges, Grandes Jorasses, the Triolet and Mont Dolent, whose watershed mark the border with France, ending in the North East the Col Ferret (m 2543) that marks the border with Switzerland.
The relief of the valley initially records a short vertical drop of just over 200 m, and is followed by a long grassy plain, which, once passed the mouth of Comba d'Armina continues up to Lavachey. From here, after a jump of about fifty meters, in correspondence with woords os Frebuze,, the valley becomes a swamp with a slight slope arriving to the Arnuva woods, where it falls into the Vallone di Belle Combe. From this point the valley joins and integrates with the steep slopes leading to the Col du Ferret eastern boundary of the Mont Blanc chain. The Val Ferret runs in its entire length from the Ferret Dora.
The Valley of the Alps divided geographically Graeae (which is included in the chain of Mont Blanc) from the Pennine Alps (all the peaks corresponding to the slope in front of the Monte Bianco chain).
The valley has a length of about 13 km (from Entrèves to Col Ferret). Planpincieux (8598 m), considered the capital of the Valley, at 65 km from Courmayeur, 37 km from Aosta, 217 km from Milan. The trip that we propose takes about an hour, provides a gradient of about 250 m to the Bonatti Refuge. Going up the path overlooking the valley Ferre: Courmayeur is seen, also the Dora, Mont Blanc and the Grandes Jorasses. Along the trail many marmots will hiss at close range, and some cows grazing could cross your path. Huge expanses of flowers of every color brighten the path. In Bonatti Refuge you can stop for a nice meal in the mountains but also to stay overnight. Spectacular Mont Blanc in front of the hut, as a magnified version of magnum and close by a powerful pair of binoculars. From here many excursions.
