The Po Delta. One of the most beautiful italian parks

filled by Giulia

The Po Delta is a land shaped by the flow of the river over the years. Among the parks, the Po delta is the largest wetland in Italy, characterized by large expanses of fresh water and brackish lagoons, fishing valleys, rivers, canals and floodplains that open suddenly in the middle the countryside, a place where the boundary between land and water is never well defined but ever-changing and evolving. The route starts from Mesola, where the Este, the family that ruled the city of Ferrara, 500 built at the end of the most imposing of the delights of Este, a huge castle and austere. Not far from Mesola stands isolated in the countryside, the Torre dell'Abate, an ancient artifact that regulated the seventeenth century, with a system of Leonardo's ports, the flow of water collected from the large drainage channels. The green lung of the Delta is certainly the Gran Bosco della Mesola, more than a thousand acres of dense vegetation, consisting of the typical Mediterranean scrub oaks, oaks, alder, hornbeam and poplar white alternate following the ups and downs of the dunes. In the undergrowth you can find along the trails off the beaten path, juniper, hawthorn, Phillyrea, in addition to typical plants of wetlands such as cattail and reed marsh. The Forest of Mesola also has a good number of deers as well as sixty hares, weasels, foxes, turtles and land. The forest is managed by the State Forestry Department, is open to visitors on Saturdays and Sundays and public holidays, while for groups that are allowed, with permission, you can also enter on Tuesdays and Fridays. Expert guides accompany on foot, by bicycle or on a wagon specially equipped for the visit, along the easy paths through the woods. Alternatively you can visit the forest of Santa Giustina Fasanara or, where the undergrowth has an even greater variety of species.
